PHOENIQS Chooses Jerez for Its Expansion in Spain

The Swiss technology company PHOENIQS, specialized in sovereign cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence, has chosen the city of Jerez (Spain) as the location for its expansion and development in the country. The announcement was made during an official event attended by José Ignacio Martínez, Deputy Mayor for Business, Self-Employment, and Digital Transformation, together with PHOENIQS representatives Angel Nuñez Mencias and Roque Caballero.

A Strategic Fit with Jerez’s Digital Vision

According to Martínez, the arrival of PHOENIQS aligns perfectly with the city’s digital transformation strategy “Jerez Connected.” The initiative aims to attract innovative companies working in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, data governance, and high-performance computing.

PHOENIQS Hesperia’s activities are closely connected to two important projects currently under development in the city: EDINT, which focuses on creating data spaces for smart cities, and PID, an initiative aimed at developing intelligent tourism destinations. Both projects are built around modern data governance frameworks, making PHOENIQS’ expertise in secure data infrastructure a natural complement to the city’s ambitions.

The company’s technology allows organizations—including businesses, institutions, and public administrations—to manage and process large volumes of data in the cloud securely and efficiently. Its high-performance infrastructure enables organizations to maintain full control over their data while benefiting from advanced computing capabilities.

For the city, attracting a company with this technological profile represents an important milestone. Martínez highlighted that PHOENIQS brings not only advanced technology, but also expertise and the ability to attract highly skilled digital talent, further strengthening the local innovation ecosystem.

Positioning Jerez as a Technology Hub

The city government has made it a strategic priority to position Jerez as a reference point for the digital economy. By attracting technology companies and strengthening the innovation ecosystem, the city aims to generate new opportunities, create high-quality jobs, and support long-term economic growth.

Martínez emphasized that the municipal government has worked consistently toward this goal through modernization initiatives, digitalization programs, and close collaboration with the NEXUR technology cluster. The cluster now includes nearly fifty companies and plays a key role in fostering innovation and technological development in the region.

He also noted that the city’s economic indicators reflect this progress: unemployment has decreased significantly, new companies are being created at record levels, and the number of self-employed professionals continues to grow. Despite these achievements, the city remains committed to continuing its efforts to attract new technology investments and strengthen its innovation ecosystem.

From Switzerland to Jerez: Building a Sovereign AI Ecosystem

During the event, Angel Nuñez Mencias, CEO of PHOENIQS Hesperia, explained the company’s background and the reasons behind choosing Jerez for its expansion.

PHOENIQS specializes in secure infrastructure designed for sectors such as healthcare, public administration, and financial services. These organizations require environments where data can be processed securely and independently, without exposure to external jurisdictions or uncontrolled systems.

We are a Swiss company and have spent the last 15 years building advanced infrastructure, and more recently artificial intelligence capabilities. Our focus has always been security and sovereignty—ensuring that organizations can run critical systems independently while protecting sensitive data.”

With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, PHOENIQS has focused on building its own computing infrastructure and high-performance clusters capable of running advanced AI workloads. The company develops solutions that allow organizations to benefit from AI technologies while maintaining full control over their data.

“Today almost everyone uses tools like ChatGPT,” Núñez Mencías explained. “What we offer is the ability to run similar AI capabilities in a secure environment, fully controlled by the organization, and powered by our own infrastructure.”

Jerez as the First International Expansion

For PHOENIQS, Jerez represents its first operational expansion outside Switzerland. The company has already been working in the city for several months and has begun hiring local employees. The decision to formally establish the company in Spain this week allows PHOENIQS to expand its team locally and continue developing its operations in the region.

The company is also working on plans to deploy its own computing infrastructure in Jerez, including physical AI clusters that will support local and international projects.

The connection with the city was facilitated through the NEXUR Technology Cluster, where PHOENIQS found a dynamic ecosystem of companies, institutions, and innovation initiatives.

“We joined NEXUR because it represents a real ecosystem,” Núñez Mencías said. “We bring infrastructure and technological expertise, but that alone is not enough. It’s essential to work with companies that understand the local environment and know how to apply these technologies in real projects. For us, it is a pleasure to be here.”
